Starsky says he loves his new home

Michelle over at Friends of Greyhounds got an email today from Starsky, the senior she and I delivered recently to Deb in Vero Beach. Deb also sent along a few photos. I've got nothing to add, so I'll just pass on Starsky's message in full:

My first week with my New Mom and “siblings” has been GREYT!!

Thanks for bringing me to them!

New Mom made me all kinds of soft treats from scratch, and while she was baking them, I got to lick a peanut butter jar totally clean! Yum!!

I finish every meal, which makes me and New Mom happy!

I’ve now got a bounce in my rickety step and even play with toys!!

I have a tag collar and tag just like my siblings.

I love to take very long naps on the shaded porch with the fan going! New Mom says she has to check me often to be sure I’m still breathing when I do this!

I’ve gotten a hang on the schedule around here and can give New Mom the “Look” like my siblings do!

New Mom gave me a gentle bath and dried me real well -- she did all the work, but I was exhausted afterwards!

New Mom takes me for a walk with Heff everyday. I’m feeling a bit stronger now and go a bit further than last week!!

I love to hang out in the yard and check everything out!

New Mom says I’m going to see a nice doctor next Saturday. She promised I’ll get extra treats afterwards!

New Mom gives me lots of pets and snuggles -- she tells me she loves me every day.

I think I’ll stay.

It was great to hear from you Starsky. Please keep us posted. We love hearing from you.

  1. This came in via email from Lisa:

I liked the Starsky post; it made me smile. I took in an ancient senior several months ago ( his mom was in hospice care, and now is gone). I only had gentle, sweet, polite, funny Bingo for about 4 months, but I made sure they were fun-filled, loving, happy ones for him. He knew it, and seemed so very grateful for everything. Bailey became his best friend immediately, and old Bingo seemed younger, and happier, daily. Until the day he began to limp-it was osteosarcoma, unfortunately. He hung on another month, then told me he was tired; I held him and told him how special, wonderful, loved he was, and he went to meet his mom again. ....somewhere.
We who love and cherish, reach out for the senior dogs, we know what we're setting ourselves up for, every time. But I/we wouldn't change a thing, nope.
That was a huge and generous thing she did for him, and he knows it.
Full credits for it all. Yep.

    1. Scott - Seniors are the best! What you did for Bingo is priceless.
I do not know if Starsky is missing his old life - but I do know he is enjoying his new life of soft beds, lots of food and treats, exercise, being petted and told he is loved on a daily basis and playing with toys.
However long he has - he will be loved and cherished.
